Meet the Editors:
Old-House Journal, Editor-in-Chief, Demetra Aposporos
Aposporos has a deep appreciation for architecture, design theory, and building history. From an early age, she attended many old-house-related events in Washington, D.C., including preservation seminars, antique fairs, and Deco Society gatherings. During numerous travels abroad, she has sought out great architecture, making pilgrimages to structures as disparate as the Acropolis, the Hermitage, La Sagrada Famiglia, and every conceivable Parisian Metro awning. As the previous owner of a circa 1900 mail-order Foursquare, she's undertaken numerous hands-on restoration projects, from paint-stripping built-ins to faux-graining wood floors to roofing and laying brick walkways. She spent nearly a dozen years working as a writer and editor at National Geographic before coming to Old-House Journal as senior editor in 2005, where she has contributed dozens of articles on topics ranging from historical overviews (the advent of color in bathrooms, the emergence of 1950s atomic wallpaper) to in-depth how-to's on creating curved moldings and laying brick walkways. Demetra's commentary on architecture has been quoted in The New York Times. The wonders of old houses—how to research and solve their many puzzles, and tune-up and preserve their many parts—are a passion she relishes exploring with OHJ's readers.
Old-House Interiors, Editor-in-Chief, Patricia Poore
Poore is currently serving as editor-in-chief of the magazines Old-House Interiors, Arts & Crafts Homes, and Early Homes, all of which she founded, Poore is also the former editor and publisher of Old-House Journal and the environmental magazine GARBAGE (1989–1995). Once a Brooklyn brownstoner, she lives in a 1904 "Tudorbethan" English Arts & Crafts house in Gloucester, Mass., with her sons Will and Peter.
